Well, it's gone anyways; I don't want to have something controversial in a group of programmes that I might post in this forum later on, if I feel I have enough things and that they're good enough that is. I haven't actually been able to work on anything that has to do with my "addon" I guess you could say. This weekend's been pretty busy with life stuffs; nothing bad, just busy busy busy. Nonetheless, I plan to make programmes based on IMDb's Top 250 films of all time. If I run out of films that sound decent from there, or if I get bored with them, I'll move on to the week's top box-office films. After that, I'll look at new releases and then lastly all films and series of all time(if or when I decide to do series) that they have documented on their website. I think I'll actually start reading the description of some of these films and series I plan to mix up after that incident.
Guys, I didn't even mean that from the movie! I had no idea that it was about that stuff, and therefore it's deleted. Anyways, I didn't even know movies could have a Greek production country, or Russia, especially. That's a cool new system for fictional actors btw!
For now at least, I don't have any questions(I know, a shocker, but don't worry, I'm sure my inadept mind will get confused about something real soon). Best of luck on the development of the next update(hopefully the studio? Please? )!
Oh, ok. See, I take stuff way too literally. I knew I was doing something wrong when I looked in ronny.xml and saw all the data stuff such as year of production, stuff I didn't have. That's why I came here and asked, because I didn't know if for some reason the game magically assigned that stuff (don't we all wish it were that easy), or it I have to do it myself(haha, should've known). I didn't know the slash thing only went at the end, either, so that helps. Probably a good thing I haven't fired up my game since starting all this mess; otherwise, the game would be like "AGH! Wtf are you doing to me?!"
Did you get the reference? It's based on Schindler's List(which I have no idea what it's about), spot 6 on IMDb's top rated list. I'm using some new releases and all-time top rated movies ever; trust me though, some of them will have REALLY bad reviews, because it's not the same thing as the real movie!
Didn't you also say something about adding an IMDb ID or something so people could find the movies I'm referencing?
Oh, sorry, one last thing: how do I get the game to assign a random director and/or actor to a show or movie? See, I plan to add something similar to the Oscars and the Grammy Awards, and of course those have a random person chosen.
@Ronny, actually that's pretty much what happened.
I'll post an example of what I have here; I don't have country of production, critics, and such in mine; I'll add them... eventually, and once I discover where to put those at.

Yeah, I was wondering why the studio was not letting me "shop" for stuff to produce movies! See, I don't really care about all that fancy schmancy stuff for holiday films; I'd just like to see them in the movie store, but maybe cheaper off-season, and they get more expensive as their holiday comes closer, if that's possible? I don't care if it doesn't happen; I'll just make my own Christmas/ Halloween movies especially, but I just thought it would add something interesting to the game; take ABC Family's 13 Nights of Halloween or 25 Days of Christmas for example.
Yeah, erotic topics are a little taboo in games, but I don't care, I love that it's in the game, especially the descriptions of some of the movies! You guys really know how to make people laugh.
I had no idea that there even was a tutorial file. I feel like an in-game tutorial would be nice to have, but it really isn't that necessary; the game in its current state isn't that hard, minus the chaos with unpredictable views and having to meet a 6-view ad by the end of the day. That and making sure your news is up to date, which around lunchtime is hard af sometimes. But I love it; it makes me feel like I'm a real TV Channel manager with real responsibilities and with real, sometimes real stupid, competitors. I can't wait till the next version; take as long as you need. I'll probably still be spamming those 5-hour Monumentals, despite the horrible topicality losses!
Speaking of which, that is really my only problem with this update; Topicality goes down way too fast sometimes and it can be almost impossible to recover. If you guys could just tone down the topicality loss a bit, I feel like it would push me away from wanting to buy 30 million movies to wait for one to recover. Other than that, this last update was a great one to the game; it added so many features that I never even realized the game actually needed! Keep up the gook work... and the good advice.
Thanks for the help, again. I would ask about the Studio, but I've asked enough already. I'll give you a break so you can actually work on the game, Ronny without having to worry about me asking a thousand questions
BTW I did post my thoughts on the game; might wanna check it out for ideas on coming updates!
TV Tower: a game made in honor of Mad TV, a gem in the old games. TV Tower has lots of complexity to it, but it's not too overwhelming; you fell great when things go right, and get a feeling of utter terror when thing's don't. You actually get nervous when going to see your boss, especially when you've had a broadcast error. The game has so many amazing aspects to it, and there are only a few negative bits here and there.
POSITIVES:
+A sense of humor!
+Some of the best movie titles I've ever seen
+Some of the best ads I've ever seen
+I can't imagine what the Super Bowl would be like in this game
+Lots of content
+Creates the emotions real TV Tower employees likely go through every day
+Wide variety of programs
+So much realism; best paid programs ever!
+Catchy music
+Very well-done news system; you never know what is going to happen next, no matter how many games or how long you play
+Erotic topic; now I can finally create Playboy on TV!
+Realistic boss; always has something to complain about, no matter what you do(unless it's repaying your debt!)
+Clever AIs; they know what you're up to, and they'll optomize their programming, spend extra money, and spam the crap out of everything just so they can beat you!
+More towers can be purchased to get more views and more MONEY!
NEGATIVES:
-Sadly, there is no tutorial; I went bankrupt 3 times because I had no idea what to do other than adding programs into the schedule and making sure ads went through ok
-A few features(like Betty's "love affair") are incomplete or are just not there, yet
-Not enough series! It seems like there are never any series with critic reviews of over 25% left after the first 3 days or so
-No full translation of English, but this is being worked on, plus it is reasonable; the developers of the game are German, so of course they are going to program with German; not that big of a deal since there's enough there to know what is what when it comes to key features
-No holiday films(at least I don't think so)! It's be great to be able to play holiday-themed movies and be like the Hallmark Channel
-The studio doesn't work(?); you can buy scripts, but when the guy gives you a shopping list, you can't click on it to do anything, not can you go to the supermarket to buy anything
Other than that, there is an incredible and hilarious game here. TV Tower is one of those gems in the indie development world that gets covered up by big-wigs like Layers of Fear or Game Dev Tycoon; when really, this is the real deal. This is one of the best tycoon(I guess you could say) games I've ever played!
RATING: 9/10
@Ronny Now I understand what you were talking about with the ID thing. I took the "make new IDs" idea way too seriously, and just typed in random numbers and letters in the same pattern as that sample; I'll fix it now, and I'm happy I don't have to do that!
Also, thanks for letting me know about the series thing. That will help, too! I don't know why I never checked the file that says Ronny; I mean, you're the one giving me all the freaking advice. Silly American me!
OK, looking at your code, I understand why the game doesn't have that many series. I am not actually sure I will be doing any series right now, because there's a lot of actor stuff, lots of variables, and lots and LOTS of lines of code per series! By the way, with programmes, I only saw country of production, actors, critics, etc. in the user files, and not under the main database's programmes. With my programmes, do I need to be adding all of that info right now?
@Teppic Alright. Glad to know someone will check my stuff out so I don't embarrass myself to the whole German community(eh,2/3 of this game's forumers?); I'll work on translations once I have a lot of movies(probably not any series, at least not yet). With my lack of time(minus weekends thankfully), it'll be a while before I give you something to look at; you've got some time(at least a week probably) before I give you stuff to look at. I do have Thanksgiving break coming up(next Wednesday through Friday), so maybe I can work a lot on these things then.
I will be checking back once a day from here on out as best I can. I'll be letting you guy know of my progress every now and then, and some day(possibly in the next month or two) I'll post my collection of programmes(which btw Ronny, if you want you can add them to the game without telling me; I don't care!) and you guys can enjoy my month(?) of work and learning how this beautiful game works!
Wow Gast2, that one forum thread has everything under the Sun I would ever need to know about programmes and series. Thanks! You guys have been so helpful; I hope to get a bunch of programmes of my own together and then maybe, one day, I'll post it on the forums for download!
Just a warning in advance: don't expect any insanely accurate German translations; they're probably going to be right from Google Translate. I can't afford the time to dig in and find all the right terminology. So, things might sound wrong if I add translations in the future!
Sorry to be a ask-it-all person, but is the method of doing series the same way, just you duplicate the same movie, but add a different description or something? Sorry to be a bother again, but I want to know so I can make some series of my own, because I find there seems to be a lack of series, at least to me. I understand you guys work real hard and I'm sure it's a pain in the butt to make new series, so I understand.
Thanks! That is really helpful; I'll play around some with this over the course of the week if I have time! Again, thank you; before, I had no idea wtf I was doing.
Can't wait till the editor releases whenever it does, and makes things even easier!
So, I just keep the same ID as the copied film? But, won't that replace the programme? See, I'm trying to add entirely new movies, and not remove any existing ones. After all, us Americans say "More is better."
Well, I am planning to do English movies, assuming I add them before the editor comes out; however, I might do German translations if someone(s) wants me to, just don't expect it to come from anywhere besides Google Translate. Sorry, I just don't have enough time to go searching in a dictionary and online for the proper words and grammar for all the movies and programmes.
I understand the <en>=english idea and have actually started to translate a few movies to English(mostly so I can understand wtf they mean), it's just that I thought there were lots of lines of code per programme and that some things from the movies would have to be duplicated into a separate spot that I didn't even know existed in order for the game to register each new item correctly. And now you know why I asked.
By the way, since movies and programmes are being discussed, how exactly do I add my own movies/programmes into the game? I see the very hard way of attempting to copy code that is a pre-existing movie, changing up the names and such, and hope I got everything in the code that will let it be in the game. But, is there an easier way than trial and error?
